 "It leaked causing $6000 in damage" 2009-07-15

My Watts washing machine hose was supposed to prevent water damage. After a few months, it put out a fine spray during the fill cycle. it was sufficient to wet the dry wall and soak into the subfloor causing over $6000 in damage, but it was not big enough to cause a puddle on the floor that I could see. The Watts insurance adjuster agreed that the hose appeared to be the culprit and took it for an "independent evaluation". Turned out Watts evaluated its own hose, proclaimed no "manufacturing defect", and refused to return it. So I had no proof. I WILL NEVER BUY A WATTS PRODUCT AGAIN!

I bought these and they worked fine for a while then i moved and reconnected the hoses and they do not work at all. our new house has very high water pressure since it's directly below the city water supply. this high pressure activated the flood safe valve and it will not reset no matter what. if you get these to work the first time don't ever increase the water pressure or you may be making that long trip to the hardware store. i'm going with braided hose without the tricky valves in them.

I purchased these hoses elsewhere over a year ago, but after coming across all the negative reviews here I felt compelled to add my experience because they worked fine for me. I installed these on an older Maytag washer and they worked as designed. I tested them before connecting to the washer by directing them into a bucket and when I turned on the supply they tripped as expected, shutting off the flow. After resetting them I connected them to the washer and when the supply was turned on they did not trip, nor do they trip when the washer is filling.



They operate on the principle that the appliance has a particular flow rate and anything beyond that is assumed to be a leak. These are tuned to the expected flow rate for a clothes washer (fairly low flow), there is a different hose available for dishwashers (which I assume have a higher nominal flow). My washer fills slowly with or without the floodsafe hoses, I assume the reviewers that had problems have washers with a high flow fill.



I gave these 4 stars instead of 5 only because I suspect a small leak would probably not trip them.

I've had no issues with this product, it works fine on my Maytag Neptune front-load washer. I am hopeful were the hose to burst, the device would shut off water flow.

This product is the WORST. I bought these thinking that they would protect my house from ruptured lines when I'm on vacation. I installed these flimsy hoses, turned the water back on and then turned the washer on...nothing. I went through the instructions to reset the hose. Took FIVE times before the darn thing would reset. Then the fun began. I turned the washer on and the water just barely comes out because of the flow restriction in the hose. It took twice as long to do a simple load of wash. I hate this product and now they won't let me return it. These are terrible. Save your money and go to your local hardware store and get a real braided metal hose. It will save you the headache and money. Now when I leave the house, I just turn the water off at the wall. I'd give it zero stars if they would let me.

Within a few months my Stainless Steel Watts washing machine hose, which was supposed to prevent water damage, starting putting out a fine spray of water during the fill cycle. I purchased this product because of limitations in my laundry space. I purchased a new GE HE washer and dryer and needed to relocate them in my laundry room due to poor placement of the dryer exhaust in my apartment. The 6' length allowed me to exchange the location of my washer/dryer providing plenty of depth to run the dryer vent hose without crimping. The installers and I were both impressed with the construction quality compared to the provided hoses. The "Flood Safe" engaged on the cold water supply after first connecting, most likely due to air in the lines. I had to disconnect the cold as instructed to reset the safety valve. After that, the hoses have performed flawlessly. I received the "Two pack" as indicated on the website.

This product is really made!! It's not likely to burst at the seams for the next 50 years or so. It is encased in a metal like product, so rubbing is not a problem, either. Really more than I thought it was.

Received a pacakge with only one connector and had to call customer service for the second connector. Looks like a recurrent problem based on existing reviews. I mentioned this to the customer service rep and she promised to look into the matter.



Other than that, the connector is much better than the rubber hose, I had. Did not check the flood safe feature. Have been using it for a while, and did not have problems with resetting the connector that some people mentioned. Overall good value.

Watts makes a very sturdy washing machine "no burst hose" connector. Simply put, this is far superior to any rubber hoses you could ever find to connect your clothes washing machine to the hot and cold valves. Watts may use fancy jargon for these no burst hoses; and if you can understand those terms that's great. However, the only truly important thing to keep in mind when choosing these stainless steel hoses is that they do a great job of avoiding flood damage--they rarely break like rubber hoses eventually do. The flood damage risk is minimal at the most.



The hoses themselves are made of braided stainless steel and just one feel of the product tells you that you made a great choice. The setup is not hard either; the instructions on the see-through plastic packaging prove it's a snap. Nevertheless, after installing these, run your clothes washing machine to test for any leaks that may be due to the need for you to tighten the hoses more or detect a defective hose.



As people correctly note, this product is NOT two separate hoses. Each hose comes in its own plastic bag; and you can get them at home improvement stores all over, too. The Amazon price is right for two hoses but they do come one to a package as of the time I am writing this. I don't know why Amazon makes such a bad mistake about that.



Overall, you are giving yourself great peace of mind when you purchase these no burst hoses for your clothes washing machine. As long as the washing machine doesn't move too much during its cycle the hoses should be good for a minimum of three years--maybe even four or five years! You should definitely check them after three years just to be on the safe side; but these should last you a long time.

After several years of service, the device failed to reset to "open" when disconnected from the shutoff valves as per the manufacturer's instructions. I lost the cost of the hoses plus several hours of labor to diagnose the cause of the very low flow rate to my washer.
